Man, my Mom is totally freaking out about this My Space thing shutting down. Apparently it was like Facebook before the internet or something? But it was the last thing stopping her from joining ACTUAL Facebook, and now I have to deal with being 'friends' with my Mom. :S

In other news, how excited am I about Holo Hockey Hero!?!?

Man, I love Fourth of July. It's gonna be a little different without being able to have a big BBQ with my family and neighbours, but I'm trying to find a cheap hibachi or something I can set up on my roof for some grilling. You guys (my friends, I mean - I never know who reads this) are totally welcome to come over, I think I've got a decent view of some fireworks. BYOB!

I just really hope there are no riots or anything that mean I get called in to work. Can you anarchists just take a day off to enjoy burgers and fireworks?

Liz Shipton rocks my world. Seriously. I was going to do a post about last weekend and my thoughts on the raids and everything, but I think she got my thoughts out far better than I could on her show.

I mean, I'm sorry that some people got upset and everything? But for the most part what happened to people happened because they were breaking the law. Why even have cops if we're not going to enforce that stuff?

Okay, so I know this is sort of geeky or whatever, but I am so excited that we're finally getting a robot fleet. I've seen some of the demo videos from other precincts and it's some pretty cool stuff. Just so long as they don't turn on us, right? ;)

Also, did anyone watch OCA? The last episode about Priti was pretty good. She's a tough kid - if I ever have a daughter I hope she's got that attitude!

Did anybody watch that new show, 1 Crowded Apartment? It's sort of melodramatic and not really my thing, but to everyone back home: that's my neighbourhood! I think it's supposed to be set pretty close to where I live too, so you can get an idea of what my hood looks like - though I don't live in an apartment full of immigrants, it's just me! ;)

Man, remember when Easter meant tons of chocolate eggs? Back before they were crazy expensive. I really miss that sometimes.

    Happy Easter everyone!

Okay, I'm glad that I'm getting to take some real calls instead of just doing traffic now, but seriously, if I get one more call because someone thinks they saw an alligator I'm going to flip out. I know animal control has got their hands full and all, but what am I even supposed to do if I find one? Arrest it? They did not cover this in training.

And besides, that whole 'alligators in the sewers' thing is just a New York urban legend, right? I mean, right?

So last night there was a riot at one of the Saint Patrick's Day parties in District 3. I was on duty so when the all units call came out, I had to report for crowd control. I said before I couldn't believe how many people there were in the city before, but it's ten times worse when they're all fighting and shouting and acting like idiots in the streets. I can't believe people can use politics as an excuse to act stupid and hurt people.

I also made my first arrest, which I'm still sort of wrapping my head around. You do all the drills at the Academy, but when you've actually got someone on the ground and you're putting cuffs on them it's like a whole different experience. It's like, wow, I'm really a cop now, you know?

Okay, so my family back home told me I had to keep a blog in the big city so they knew I was okay and what was going on, so here goes. I've been reading some other ones and I just want to say up front I'm not nearly as good a writer as a lot of other people doing this, so sorry for that - but hey, if you don't like my writing there's lots of other blogs to pay attention to instead!

I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to wrap my head around how big this city is. Sometimes I feel like I can go forever in any direction and not even come close to the city limits. I suppose it has to be so huge, to fit this many people. The number of folks I see and interact with on a daily basis still blows my mind, too. Sometimes I'm just like, wow, where did they all come from? But then I remember and it really puts everything in perspective.

I just wish people were nicer to cops sometimes.
